Nick Cannon posts first post-hospital tweet, responds to fans

Embattled rapper Nick Cannon broke his silence on the sudden passing of his baby, Thursday, to thank fans and supporters for their outpouring of support in the wake of the tragic accident. Cannon and wife Mariah Carey welcomed twins Moroccan and Monroe in April 2011. They named their newborns for Hollywood luminaries Prince and Marilyn Monroe.

From an emailed message:

“Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our son, brother and best friend, Moroccan Scott Cannon. We would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss. The loss of a child is one of the most painful things a parent can endure, and we appreciate that we have a community and family who have embraced our boys with such love and support. Our family will remain resilient and strong, and we will continue to mourn our loss together.”

Carey released a statement Wednesday night regarding the infant’s death:

“I will forever be in awe of her strength and her ability to selflessly nurture our babies and offer such support to Nick,” she said. “I cannot begin to comprehend the depths of your devastation, but my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.”

A private funeral service for the couple’s son is scheduled for Sept. 1. Cannon, meanwhile, will return to the small screen Saturday for a Celebrity Super Bowl freestyle challenge.
