‘Lucky’: Canadian Novelist Marissa Stapley Set to Discuss Chilling Thriller at San Francisco Book Party

Author Marissa Stapley will appear in San Francisco to discuss her book “Lucky” — the first Canadian pick for Reese Witherspoon’s book club and featuring a storyline that will sound familiar to fans of “Twilight,” “Spartacus” and “Reign.”

Stapley attended a book and wine event hosted by author Carol Rumens and held at Rumens’ wine bar on Wednesday. The event is being held for “Truly Madly Guilty,” a read of Rumens’ book by a fan named Emily Jessup that has garnered a cult following on social media. Rumens invited actress and cookbook author Stapley to discuss the book, and “Lucky” was selected as a selection for the Reese Witherspoon book club on Reddit earlier this month.

Stapley is a fourth-generation lawyer who has made a name for herself as a prominent science-fiction writer and blogger. Her novel “Lucky” is the story of a female bounty hunter who is drawn into the dangerous reality of modern-day slavery. The thriller was published this spring.
